Harriers Warm Up At Bundoora

The XCR competition returned to Melbourne for round 4 at Bundoora Park. It was a relief to run in perfect conditions after the cold at Ballarat, and the revised course was slightly less hilly than previous years.

First up were the open women competing over 8km, with all our athletes having strong runs. Tracey Austin (29:17) put in another amazing performance, with a sizzling second lap putting her fourth overall. Tracey has a strong claim to be included in this year’s Victorian cross country team. Jay Wright (47:21) and Nicki Macfarlane (36:05) finished in seventh and ninth in their age categories.

Then it was the open men’s turn to compete over 12km. Shaun Green (45:27) was feeling under the weather but put in a gutsy performance to our first athlete home. Jaco Kukkuk (47:16) produced one his best runs and looks likely to shatter his 10km PB at Albert Park. John Williams (51:55), also under the weather, and Steve Williams (53:29) finished third and tenth in their age categories.

After four rounds the AV team and individual ladders are starting to take shape. Highlights for Malvern are: Men Division 3 in third place, Tracey equal fifth in Open Women, John Williams first in Men 60+, Shaun Green third in Men 40-44, with 8 Harriers in total listed on the individual ladders.

Results are now available.
